 Snowmobiling

Warm temps combined with a substantial amount of rain have effectively ended the snowmobile season.  Trails remain open but are UNRIDEABLE.  Unless we see a significant snowstorm before the end of March, the season is over until next year.  The Best Trails in the NATION!

Trails remain open throughour the area but are UNRIDEABLE (see table) They will remain open until the end of March and with 8+" of snow you can get that last ride of the season in.  However, no snow is forecast at this time.  Thanks for a great season!  Click for packages.

The lake is covered in water with little snow left.  Although there is a significant amount of ice, it is awfully wet out there.   Bridges and areas of moving water are opening up and thin ice is prevalent in those areas.  Use caution if on the lakes.  The stick trail is still up but we'll be taking it down the next week or so.

Thanks for a Great Winter Season!  See you this summer for golf, boating, fishing, hiking, ATV-ing, biking and so much more!

NOTE: Conditions on trails can change rapidly depending on weather conditions and the amount of traffic they receive. We do our best to let people know what is happening in the area, most often by comments from the users themselves. However accurate our report is to some, the rest will feel it as inaccurate. Please know, at the time of the report, we are as forthcoming as possible about snow and trail conditions. Enjoy them safely.

All Terrain Vehicles (ATV)

There are new trails opening throughout the region for all season use! Remember there are restrictions and closures in effect as well. Check to be sure the trails you wish to ride are open during your planned trip. Changes are occuring weekly and you will need to stay informed.

Designated ATV trails in the Chequamegon National Forest are open to traffic during all times of the year. BE SURE THE TRAILS YOU ARE USING ARE OPEN FOR ATV USE DURING THE SEASON YOU ARE RIDING. We have seasonal trail use that may not include the time you are riding. We do not want to lose trail privileges by inappropriate use. Changes in the Forest Management Plan closed all trails in the National Forest, except those designated for ATV use, as of June 13th 2004. In every case, protect our forest by sticking to designated and marked trails and trying not to damage sensitive areas. Enjoy your pastime, but be conscientious of other users.

NOTE: the Town of Namakagon and neighboring townships have opened new trails and changed the past use of some trails, use the most current maps and check on local conditions before heading out into our wonderful forest.

Ice Fishing
Area lakes are snow covered and with slush and frozen slush becoming more common. Ice thickness ranges are still 16"+ in most areas.  The catch has iremained steady the past weeks for panfish and crappie.  Season is now closed for some species so you'll have to throw that nice walleye back.  Good luck and good fishing.
