The Lakewoods is proud to be certified by the state of Wisconsin as an environmentally concious business who continuously tries to improve our operations to reduce its environmental impact.

Travel Green Wisconsin is a voluntary program that certifies businesses that have made a commitment to continuously improve their operations in order to reduce their environmental and social impact. Travel Green Wisconsin is designed to support the Wisconsin brand, promote smart business practices, reduce costs, educate travelers, and protect the beauty and vitality of Wisconsin's landscape.

What is Lakewoods doing to help?

We at Lakewoods strive to take every opportunity and protect our natural environment and wonderful area we live in.  Towards those ends we have several programs in place and follow certain operational procedures to achieve those ends. 

We participate in and operate The Clean Boats, Clean Waters Program in partnership with the State Department of Natural Resources and the Namakagon Lakes Association.  Protecting our waters from Aquatic Invasive Species, the voluntary program is a high priority for us with our proximity to beautiful Lake Namakagon.

We are retrofitting all our rental watercraft and snowmobiles to clean running 4-stroke engines.  Operating much cleaner and quieter than old technology two stroke engines, they protect not only the environment by reducing oil and gas consumption but also people's enjoyment by reducing background noise.

We have a Reduce and Reuse Program where our guest voluntarily reuse their linens and towels during their stay.  Saving thousands of gallons of pure Wisconsin water, it also reduces the use of cleaning products and detergents.

We are replacing traditional cleaning products with non-toxic, phosphate-free, biodegradable cleaning products and detergents.  Reducing the amount of chemicals into the environment is paramount to keeping our waters pure and clean.

We open our doors to the many social groups and not for profit organizations to improve our local area and help the residents.  Donating more than $40,000 to different groups, we operate six different charity events through our NOW-I-CAN Charities of Lakewoods.   Click here to go to our Charities Page for more information on the many causes we support.

We have retrofitted more than 90% of the property with low wattage fluorescent bulbs or light fixtures and also installed low flow faucets and shower heads.  Conserving both water and electricity both reduces demand for energy and decreases emissions to create that energy.

We use non-CFC based plastics and biodegradable foams and plastic food containers; most made from corn based “plastics”.  Wholly biodegradable and approved by the USDA, they are a created from renewable resources.

Our Recycling Program includes a voluntary segments in use by our guests.  All guests are encouraged to use the provided recycling containers which allow our waste service provider to separate and transport recyclable products to their new life. 

Overall, Lakewoods has made an effort in more than 61 different categories to evaluate our operations, set new goals, and improve our facility to take specific actions towards environmental, social, and economic sustainability.  We hope you all will do the same.
